La Perla is a neighborhood of Old San Juan located between the Atlantic Ocean and the city walls. Even though this neighborhood has been marginalized and criminalized by the government for years, La Perla is one of the most visited places in Old San Juan. The Bowl was initially built by the community and the artist Chemi Rosado, as a skateboarding bowl. Today it is also used as a swimming pool and meeting place for residents and visitors.
